A step up from the MS 230, the MS 250 is light enough to move through smaller tasks like clearing or cleanup but packs a powerful enough punch to cut through small limbs and trees. Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Recommended I bought my chainsaw based on the reputation and the recommendation of an authorized dealer. I have regretted it ever since. Here's why:- It does not start reliably. I have never "just started" this saw - I now plan on an hour of "futzing" before beginning to get work done.- This saw is hard to start right-handed. I don't think it's even possible to start left handed.- The user experience is terrible. For example, the instructions clearly say to wear steel toed boots. The starting instructions state to put the toe of your boot through the handle when starting. You would have to have tiny feet to follow both of these instructions.- Speaking of instructions, they're terrible. The directions for starting the saw are four pages long. Not very useful when you're trying to start the saw in the field. The diagrams are meaningless. I challenge anybody to get the carb shield on correctly by referring to the picture.Overall, I'm very disappointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for. My Stihl is a very good tool. I've had it a little over a year. Had three other brands which were not quite as good. When I first got it, I could not get it to start. Did just what the book said. Took it back to the store and the salesman showed me how this unit starts. Nothing like the manual. Starts every time and runs like a champ. Cuts through wood like it's butter. To start the saw, you want to put it on choke for one pull only. Kick it up one notch and it starts right up. Very easy to use and maintain. The chain oiler work really good.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok product Only after a couple uses the chain kept popping off the blade and 2 weeks later this chain is doing the same thing making my work time take longer . I am not cutting redwoods or even big diameter trees down maybe like 4-6" . Stihl is supposed to be the best but after 2 weeks I could have bought a poulan pro for half the price with all the issues with the chain and blade

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Affordable powerhouse My MS250 is as dependable as the sunrise! Quick to start and eager to work. This chainsaw is great for cutting wood and cleaning up wind damage on our property. My Stihl just helped to quarter up some oak stumps without any hesitation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Chainsaw I have had a couple other chain saws prior to buying the MS250. For what I need it for its perfect and it is VERY reliable. I use it to cut nothing more than 10" trunks and branches. It's ideal for my use and would recommend it to anyone with similar needs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Long Time owner MS250 Overall its been a pretty good chainsaw that I've had almost 8 to 10 years. It's been used extensively to clear my property, and provide fire wood to heat my house. Overall it's done the job I needed it to. but I've also had to put some repairs into it to keep it running. This year had to replace the pull start & chainsaw body when the fuel tank cracked.Cuts great when the chain is new & sharp. Chain dulls quickly. Especially after the chains been sharpened a few times. Usually I have 3 to 4 chains available to cycle through between sharpening.Usually starts easily when you first start for the day. Can be difficult to restart after it has been running for a while. Especially after it has stalled. The locking fuel cap leaks. Replaced them three times over the years, and they still leak. Stihl should of never gone away from the simple screw lock fuel caps.
